On July 9, 2022 the Lomita Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Lomita, South Bay Credit Union and sponsoring organizations and volunteers held its 2nd Annual Lemonade Day® Lomita event to celebrate youth entrepreneurship.

So many excited, motivated, creative and committed young entrepreneurs worked very hard to get ready for this day. Their families, volunteers and mentors also worked together to guide them along the way.

The young entrepreneurs got their business licenses, health department permits, pitched for a business micro loan, did their own marketing online, and posted flyers around town advertising their lemonade stands. Each entrepreneur worked with the Lomita Chamber and the businesses in the City of Lomita to have a stand at their location and did everything from building their own stands to juicing lemons, testing unique recipes and creating a business plan to achieve their save, spend and share financial goals as part of the program.

"Being an entrepreneur and business owner is a lot of work to get to opening day especially when you’re your own boss. It’s not always easy, it’s not a charity and you don’t always get handouts," said Heidi Butzine, President/CEO of Lomita Chamber of Commerce. "In real life it takes grit, determination, commitment, flexibility, and a positive attitude to bring your business to life. And it can be very successful with a great product and the support of your community."

Elected officials participated in the opening ceremonies including Congresswoman Maxine Waters, LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn, LAUSD School Board Member Tonya Ortiz-Franklin, Mayor of Lomita Cindy Segawa, City of Lomita Councilmembers and representatives from Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi's office and Senator Ben Allen's office.

Lemonade Day® is a national program that embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship. It’s not just putting up a lemonade stand on a Saturday. It’s a curriculum to build skills in financial literacy, personal development and life-long socialization and business experiences for young people to dip their toe in the water of being a business owner.
