Capital Equipment vs. Consumables

Capital equipment or consumables? What’s the difference?
Often forgotten during business planning are all of the different types of capital equipment needed to setup a lemonade stand.

Capital Equipment vs. Consumables

- Capital Equipment includes supplies that can be used repeatedly. Many of these supplies can be found in your own house! (Examples: Ice chest, table, pitcher, etc.)

- Consumables are the items that will be used-up during the running of your lemonade stand. These things will need to be purchased in order to run your business. (Examples: Lemonade ingredients, ice, cups, etc.)

All of these questions will help an aspiring entrepreneur to make an accurate budget and plan for the items they will need on Lemonade Day:

  • What will their stand look like?

  • What materials do you have on-hand that can be used to create the stand?

  • How much do you want to spend on the stand?

  • How will you make and serve your product?

  • How will you collect money?

  • Do you need to keep ingredients somewhere to make product during the day?
