Houston Lemonade Day Welcomes Jack and Suzy Welch to Annual Young Entrepreneur Awards

Houston Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards Recognize Youth Business Owners

The Houston chapter of Lemonade Day will host a fundraiser and awards show tonight at the University of Houston featuring former General Electric CEO Jack Welch and his wife, and best selling author, Suzy.

The Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards will highlight the success of Houston children that participated in Lemonade Day, an international initiative to teach elementary school students the basic principles of business. Doors for the event at the University of Houston Cullen Performance Center will open at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday May 20. Tickets are still available in a range of prices with all proceeds going to support Houston Lemonade Day.

“We are incredibly proud of the Houston children that got to work and opened their own lemonade stands,” said Colleen McCauley, executive director of Lemonade Day Houston. “Early financial education opens great opportunities for kids. Understanding the fundamentals of entrepreneurship will serve them well as they progress in their education and enter the workforce.”

Along with Jack and Suzy Welch, the event will also honor Tony Sanchez III, CEO of Sanchez Energy Corporation. Mr. Sanchez is being recognized for his contributions to Lemonade Day and youth entrepreneurship. The ceremony will focus on selected Houston Lemonade Day participants that highlight the organization’s larger mission.

“It’s important to publicly honor our kids’ hard work,” McCauley said. “They created goals, made plans, and their dedication has lead to success they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. We’re confident the Lemonade Day experience will guide them to even greater heights later in life.”

On May 3, children in 22 cities from Eugene, Oregon to Jackson, Mississippi established their own lemonade stands using knowledge gained from Lemonade Day programs and curriculum. Participants in Houston have been especially successful since the founding of the organization eight years ago. Lemonade Days will be held around the world for the rest of summer, depending on location.
