Houston Lemonade Day Weekend by Gaye Jackson, City Director

This year, Lemonade Day Houston celebrated its 12th year mentoring young entrepreneurs who served lemonade and lemony sweets, raised money and shared some of their profits with great causes. Houston is the flagship Lemonade Day city and for the first time, held the event across two days on May 4 and 5, 2019.

Houston VIP Tour
Change Happens stand in the Rice Village

More than 9,000 participants across the Houston metropolitan area worked hard, set a goal, worked their plan and achieved success. Some of the Lemonade Day VIPs (investors, supporters, staff and friends) hopped Mr. McKinney’s History bus on Saturday to visit lemonade stands. On Sunday, the VIPs rode an old fashioned yellow school bus.  Both days they traveled across the city visiting young entrepreneurs selling at locations including the Houston’s East End Farmers Market, Discovery Green, the 5th Ward, River Oaks, Rice Village, Houston Parks and Rec, Boys & Girls Clubs and 19th Street in The Historic Heights district.

Thanks to all our major sponsors – Amegy Bank, Cadence Bank, Frost Bank, H-E-B, Holthouse Foundation for Kids, Houston Community Foundation, Peterson Family Foundation, IBC Bank, Lester & Sue Smith, Telemundo and Third Coast Bank - for all their help in making the 2019 Lemonade Day a huge success!  Our young business dreamers were red hot selling all that cool lemonade!

We have also chosen the winners of the 10 bikes to be given away on June 1 at the Sugar Land Skeeters baseball game.  Tickets are available online or at the gate for a discounted price of $12.00 with $4 of each ticket going to Lemonade Day-Houston using the discount code Lemonade.  Come out and celebrate with Houston kids, enjoy the game and fireworks in honor of the sparks of entrepreneurship Lemonade Day participants spread across the Houston metropolitan area.

On May 4, more than 1,100 young entrepreneurs participated in Lemonade Day Galveston County! Things really got “real” at Build-a-Stand, along with the Spark a Dream event, and Best Tasting Contest event. Entrepreneurs got to work hand-in-hand with adults to create their stands. Check out these great photos. Thank you so much to the Bassett family and the employees at Village Hardware for hosting and sponsoring this special event.
