Lemonade Day is much more than any one day in any one place. Lemonade Day is a metaphor for youth entrepreneurship and empowerment that can affect lifelong positive outcomes.  “Lemonade Season” is a phrase that we have coined to represent Lemonade Day activities that span from early April through late summer in the United States and Canada. And “Lemonade Season” is continuing to bear fruit this year, with more than 14 communities gearing up to host Lemonade Day this weekend all the way through September.

I am proud to report that our Lemonade Day national youth entrepreneurship program has engaged more than 1 million kids in the process of launching their own lemonade businesses since 2007.  We have an ambitious, yet achievable goal of engaging another million kids in Lemonade Day by 2023. Lemonade Day leaders, mentors and volunteers are working with young kids of kindergarten through middle school ages to sow seeds of entrepreneurship now that will bear healthy rewards long into the future. Already in 2018, more than 41,000 kids have registered to host a lemonade stand and learn business and leadership skills that will equip them for life. Another excellent statistic for 2018 is that reporting of lemonade business results is up 60 percent from the same period last year.

I believe that Lemonade Day is every day, and every season is Lemonade Season. My hope it that kids will be inspired to host lemonade stands not just on one day of the year, but on many days so that they can spend some, save some and share some of their profits with a cause that matters to them as part of a regular routine that is as familiar as attending school. Ideally, Lemonade Day will inspire more kids to become business owners as teens and adults.  Check out some of our amazing success stories at lemonadeday.org.

ABOUT  LEMONADE DAY

Founded in Houston in 2007 by Michael and Lisa Holthouse, Lemonade Day is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching every child across North America the business and financial skills that are the key ingredients of entrepreneurship.  By learning these skills early in life, children will be better prepared to be successful, financially healthy adults.  Through our fun, hands-on program, kids K-5 are empowered to start their very own business—a lemonade stand—and experience the feeling of earning real money, using 100% of their profit to spend, save and share based on their own goals.

Lemonade Day is hosted in 66 territories in North America and is growing. Over the past 10 years, we have served more than 1 million kids in our youth entrepreneur programs. Within the next five years, Lemonade Day leaders estimate that 250,000 mentors and millions of more kids will be hosting lemonade stands in North America and on other continents throughout the world.
