Undergraduate Education in Entrepreneurship

Bachelor Degrees in Entrepreneurship

People often think that academics doesn’t change. This couldn’t be further from the truth, of course. As our understanding of the world become more complicated, new fields of study emerge. Computer science and information technology is one example but our focus is on entrepreneurship.

Bachelor’s Degrees in Entrepreneurship

Though business is among some of the oldest of human activities, entrepreneurship as a concept has only been around since the 17th and 18th century when the study of classical economics began. With an increasingly globalized economy (and the uncertainty that often accompanies it), entrepreneurship has become an increasingly valued tool to create new jobs, industries, and technology. As a result, institutions of higher education have begun offering entrepreneurship courses and certificates. These are not just renamed business degrees, but a new course of study potentially laying the foundation for the next great companies.

Babson College

One of the most elite business schools in the United States, Babson College has been producing successful business leaders since 1919. Students at the school can only receive business administration degrees with a concentration in one of 25 areas. Professors that teach business or entrepreneurship are required to have successfully operated and/or sold a business. To receive a degree from Babson, students are required to take a number of courses focused on entrepreneurship. Unsurprisingly, Babson College is often ranked #1 for entrepreneurial studies by various publications.

University of Houston

Very similar in structure to Babson is the University of Houston and the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship. Here, students also earn bachelor’s degrees in business administration but with a unique concentration on entrepreneurship. Students concentrate on starting businesses in new industries. Considered one of the best undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the country, the UH program gives students the opportunity to learn from world class faculty while earning a corporate entrepreneurship certificate and preparing to start their own companies.

Northeastern University

Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Northeastern University allows students to earn a minor in global entrepreneurship studies while pursuing larger coursework in another major. Students in the Northeastern entrepreneurship program often earn business administration or finance degrees in addition to their enterprise studies. In addition to coursework and experienced faculty, entrepreneurial students at Northeastern also participate in a startup competition that has lead to the creation of more than a dozen companies.
