Lemonade Day National Team Prepares to Host 2018 City Directors Conference and Discuss Growth Goals for 2019

By Steven Gordon, Lemonade Day National President

2018 Conference

Our Lemonade Day national team is preparing to host the 2018 Lemonade Day City Directors Conference Sept. 26-28 at Hotel Sorella in Houston.  Our Lemonade Day city directors, who represent communities and military bases in North America, will join our national team in celebrating the success of Lemonade Day events this year, discussing our growth goals, and exchanging ideas for the 2019 “Lemonade Season,” which will run from April through late summer next year. We are also planning to announce our National Youth Entrepreneur of the Year and the city director who will be honored with the President’s Award at our upcoming conference.

Our speaker line-up is impressive.

We are fortunate to have secured Joe Daly, a partner with Gallup and a member of the Lemonade Day National Board of Directors, as our keynote speaker for Friday, Sept. 28. Joe will share highlights from the book Born to Build written by Jim Clifton, chairman and chief executive officer of Gallup, and Sangeeta Badal, Ph.D., principal scientist for Gallup's Builder Initiative. The authors wrote this book to inspire entrepreneurs and other ambitious, self-motivated individuals to “build something that will change the world regardless of how large or small one’s ambition is.” The book provides four key steps to create success, an online assessment to reveal one’s unique builder talents, and access to the Gallup platform for assistance in one’s journey.

Lemmy Awards

In addition to Joe, other featured presenters include Patti Rogers, founder and chief executive officer of Rallyhood, which developed a community collaboration software that organizes, connects and engages purpose-driven communities using a mobile platform; a representative from Gloo, a software program that delivers a platform to help strengthen connections and support growth between champions by providing mentoring, training and support; and Susan Thomas of Tribe + Glory, a non-profit organization that empowers and activates female entrepreneurs to achieve self-sustainability through relationship, craftmanship, and entrepreneurship.

I am looking forward to enlisting the aid of our city directors and other supporters in pursuing our expansion goals for 2019. We will be increasing the number of cities that will be licensed to host Lemonade Day events; we are seeking additional national and regional partnerships with companies like Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers® and True Citrus®, who align well with the Lemonade Day model; and we are recruiting several more influential and action-oriented business owners, executives and community leaders to serve as members of our national board of directors.

City Director Conference

By 2023, we would like to engage 250,000 mentors to support millions of kids in the process of starting a business.  To get to these big numbers, we need more towns, cities and military bases to participate with us as Lemonade Day license holders. Lemonade Day is well-positioned to expand in the Northeast and Southwest regions of the United States.  Our current host cities and military installations serve as excellent role models for other communities that can bring the Lemonade Day experience to young kids. Lemonade Day is proven to teach kids business and character-building lessons that will serve them for life through the power and simplicity of hosting a lemonade stand. Our Lemonade Day national team provides tools and materials that streamline the process of launching and sustaining local Lemonade Day programs. We provide website templates, workbooks, social media campaigns, and guidance for event planning, volunteer and mentor recruitment, and sponsor development.

Thank you in advance for supporting our Lemonade Day mission. I welcome your comments and suggestions; please email me at steven@lemonadeday.org.

About Lemonade Day

Founded in Houston in 2007 by Michael and Lisa Holthouse, Lemonade Day is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching every child across North America the business and financial skills that are the key ingredients of entrepreneurship. By learning these skills early in life, children will be better prepared to be successful, financially healthy adults. Through our fun, hands-on program, kids K-5 are empowered to start their very own business—a lemonade stand—and experience the feeling of earning real money, using 100% of their profit to spend, save and share based on their own goals.

Lemonade Day is hosted in 72 territories in North America and is growing. Over the past 11 years, we have served more than 1 million kids in our youth entrepreneur programs. Within the next five years, Lemonade Day leaders estimate that 250,000 mentors and millions more kids will be hosting lemonade stands in North America and on other continents throughout the world.
