Lemonade Day 2019 National Youth Entrepreneur of the Year and Puerto Rico City Director Support Lemonade Day YOUR WAY and THEIR WAY!

Lemonade Day Puerto Rico

Summer in “new normal” pandemic times is here, temperatures are sizzling, and kids in many U.S. states, the territory of Puerto Rico,  and other areas are preparing to start school in some form or another within the next few weeks.  Here at Lemonade Day national headquarters, we are encouraging young people to learn lessons in starting a business and to mark their calendar for National Lemonade Day Aug. 20. We are also encouraging parents, grandparents, teachers and other adult mentors to register kids to participate in our FREE Lemonade Day My Way promotion Aug. 20-23!  Kids who participate in Lemonade Day in any way have access to our free online Lemonopolis lesson program  that helps them to develop skills that will serve them for life!

Because the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the postponement of previously planned Lemonade Day events that were slated for April, May and other months this year, we developed the Lemonade Day My Way campaign! What this means is that kids can still enjoy the experience of hosting a lemonade stand the “in person” way or the “virtual way” with step-by-step guidelines and graphics available at www.lemonadeday.org.

Remember that our Lemonade Day kids keep the money they earn from hosting their lemonade stands to spend and/or save, and most of our kids generously share a portion of their profits with a charity or cause close to their hearts!

Lemonade Day My Way and Their Way --In Their Own Words!

I am fortunate to know and work with amazing  Lemonade Day City Directors in 84 communities as well as impressive young entrepreneurs, their super supportive parents and motivational mentors. My ever-growing Lemonade Day family inspires me every day and reminds me why the work we do now with young kids and teens is so essential for cultivating leaders of the future.

I am honored and thankful that two of our fabulous Lemonade Day My Way supporters Saanvi Vinod, 2019 Lemonade Day National Youth Entrepreneur of the Year,  and Lemonade Day Puerto Rico City Director Natalia Subirá are sharing their comments, photos and videos with us today.  Saanvi and Natalia have been instrumental in creating sweet success for themselves and just about everyone who knows them! Please join me in learning what they have to say about supporting Lemonade Day My Way and Their Way!

(Sneak preview:  Saanvi is hosting summer business camps for kids via Zoom,  and Natalia and her team are hosting Lemonade Day in Puerto Rico this Saturday! So awesome!)

About Saanvi

Saanvi Vinod

Earning the title of Lemonade Day 2019 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year has opened many opportunities for Saanvi! She was invited to host her lemonade stand at local events and organizations in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, such as Blessings in a Backpack, a PreK fundraising event that provides food on the weekend for schoolchildren, and the Louisville Mall St. Matthews Solar Panel Installation press conference. Both Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and St. Matthews Mayor Rick Tonini attended that!

Saanvi also was the only youth entrepreneur featured at the Louisville International Women's Day celebration. Check out this news coverage!

Saanvi enjoys being an entrepreneur and is thinking about a few ideas for the future. She is interested in creating home decor and handmade art to sell online. Late in July, she started a small summer camp for children in her community to teach them more about youth entrepreneurship.  Since then, she has developed a three-week summer camp with two sessions per week, including homework! She is conducting these camp sessions via Zoom.

Here is some advice from Saanvi for other kids:

"Lemonade Day has taught me to believe in my dreams and be confident and creative. The advice I would like to give to other kids is to never give up and to never stop believing in themselves. Use Lemonade Day as an opportunity to create and refine your business. You will learn everything there is to run a successful business just like I did through Lemonade Day. Please participate and get the most out of this program.”

About Natalia

Puerto Rico Lemonade Day

Natalia has served as the Lemonade Day Puerto Rico City Director for two years. She and the Lemonade Day Puerto Rico team are hosting Lemonade Day Their Way this Saturday! They also are planning to offer a second Lemonade Day experience this semester, targeting schools that will include the Lemonade Day program in their curriculum.

Natalia especially enjoys getting to know the kids and parents who participate in the program.

Here’s what Natalia has to say:

Lemonade Day kids look up to me as a mentor -- which is something I ever expected,” Natalia commented. “Our program participants have taken the initiative to  find alternatives to do their business  after the lock down caused by COVID-19, even before Lemonade Day My Way was announced. Most of them are taking orders via text messages and social media messaging and delivering their product with their parents’ help. The parents have really gone the extra mile to give their children this experience. These kids and parents are RESILIENT!! They find a way to make it work even if conditions are not favorable: storms, earthquakes, COVID, they go out and make it work for them!

We have found that being available for our participants is very important. We do not just hand out materials and have the kids and their adult mentors figure it out. We have done Zoom tutorials for parents, teachers and groups. We answer every message and every call. We give them our time,  and they know we are here for them.  A big help to us has been that one of our sponsors, Gustazos, has served as a pickup/drive through place for materials. We also invested in mailing materials to homes for those who preferred that!

Lemonade Day Puerto Rico is especially grateful to  Liberty Foundation, Banco Popular, SuperMax, LB Project Management, Gustazos, FAR Foundation, Plaza las Américas, Dulce Caña, and San Patricio Plaza for their support.
